SCKL is the first higher education institution to adopt CodeSnaps in Southeast Asia

SEGi College Kuala Lumpur (SCKL) and SAS Institute Inc., the US multinational analysis software developer, organised a training workshop for 30 Form 5 and 6 students from 4 schools to expose them to large data management and CodeSnaps training. This training workshop was held on 19 July 2019 to prepare the students for the Data Intelligence Challenge – Big Data & Artificial Intelligence: A Powerful Combination for the Future Growth, which will be held on 26 July 2019 at SEGi College Kuala Lumpur.

CodeSnaps is a coding system that requires only one tablet and one robot. It is an initiative to prepare prospective professional data scientists to acquire the skills and means to manage block-less devices and provide employees with Industry 4.0 knowledge.

According to Khor Swee Kweng, Senior Business Development Manager, SAS Institute Sdn. Bhd., “We now know that computer science and coding are an indispensable set of skills and have high demand in the job market. We need more students to learn about this new set of skills, and SAS plays a big role in encouraging them to follow the programme. Hence, SAS generated an application called CodeSnaps, where students will be more interested in learning about coding and computer science.”

David Foo Sek Kuan, Head of Engineering and Technology School of SEGi College Kuala Lumpur, added that the workshop and competition were organised to provide exposure to the new generation, specifically the school students, on the new technologies and future skills that are essentially needed as a competitive edge to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

At this programme, in a team of 5, students shall be required to use Codesnaps to write an Artificial Intelligence (AI) program code to activate and mobilise a robot. In addition, students will be challenged to apply Big Data concepts, analytic and creative skills to store, analyse, manage, predict, and report data to make decisions.

Jesslyn Wong, one of the programme participants from the CBC Learning Center, said this training workshop introduced her to SAS software. This kind of disclosure helped her better understand the field of computer science and data science and prepare her for the competition that will be held soon.
