Breaking Barriers: Inspiring Allyship for Gender Balance in Malaysian Corporate Leadership

Associate Professor Dr. Hafriza Burhanudeen from FOELPM had the honor of being an invited delegate at the “Inspiring Allyship” forum, organised by the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Kuala Lumpur. This significant event took place at the AMCHAM and 30% Club.

The inaugural “Inspiring Allyship” forum served as a special networking evening, bringing together prominent Malaysian corporate leaders, professionals, and advocates who share a collective vision of fostering a more inclusive corporate landscape. The primary goal is to support the attainment of a minimum 30% Gender Balance at all senior decision-making levels throughout Malaysia.

One of the pivotal aspects of the event was the emphasis on diversity through male allyship. The forum featured insights from three influential leaders, Ahmad Shahriman M., CEO of CIMB Islamic Bank, and Rohit Nambiar, Group Chief Executive Officer of Tune Protect Group. They generously shared their experiences in driving diversity and offered valuable advice based on their journeys as male allies. Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, CEO of PEMANDU Associates, contributed by presenting on “Managing Polarities” in the context of approaching change.

The forum provided a platform for attendees to engage with these industry leaders, gain insights into fostering diversity, and contribute to the ongoing efforts to create a more gender-balanced and inclusive professional landscape in Malaysia.
