Bridging Theory and Practice: Industrial Visit to Quest Integrity

A group of Chemical Engineering students from SEGi University recently participated in an industrial visit to Quest Integrity MYS Sdn Bhd.- Baker Hughes, located at Cheras Jaya, Selangor, on 4^第 February 2026. Quest Integrity-Baker Hughes USA company has developed an innovative pipeline inspection tool called LS-C UT (Liquid Self-Contained UT ILI Tool) – the world’s first online Ultrasonic In-line Inspection tool. This tool can be propelled by live gas or multiphase flow during pipeline inspection, eliminating the need for prolonged production shutdowns and associated production losses, while delivering high quality accurate inspection data to enhance pipeline integrity management. The visit was organized by IChemE Student Chapter, IEM-SEGi student section and Chemical Engineering lecturers. This initiative reflects the university’s continuous effort to strengthen industry–academia engagement and enhance students’ employability.

Industry professionals sharing, with regards to the pipeline integrity management, inspection technologies, and safety practices used to ensure reliable and efficient pipeline operations, by the General Manager of Quest Integrity, Mr. Wong Chee Choong and the Principal (Pipeline Integrity) from Petronas, Ir Ts Raymond Lam Choong Meng. The session also introduced students to real engineering challenges faced in the industry and the importance of adhering to engineering standards and safety regulations. It is a good opportunity for our Chemical Engineering students to experience how engineering works to push the boundaries in innovation to be applied in the real-life Oil & Gas sector. The visit offered students a meaningful learning experience by connecting classroom knowledge with real-world industrial practices. Through interactive discussions and knowledge sharing, students gained a clearer understanding of professional engineering roles and career pathways in the oil and gas industry. Overall, the industrial visit successfully enriched students’ learning experience and reinforced the university’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates.
