“Shell We Clean?” Coastal Clean Up: Shaping a Sustainable Future

On the 10th of July, 2023, the shores of Pantai Bagan Lalang, Sepang, witnessed a remarkable event – “Shell We Clean? Coastal Clean Up Volunteering Event.” Organized by students from Cohort 23 as part of their MPU3432 Sustainability Thinking course, this initiative not only aimed to make the environment more beautiful and clean but also fostered a sense of togetherness among the participants.

The event provided a fantastic opportunity for the entire group, including SEGi staff and students, to come together and contribute towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. Beyond the removal of litter, “Shell We Clean?” was about taking collective action and instilling the values of responsible citizenship.

Throughout the day, from 6 am to 4 pm, the participants were immersed in the noble task of coastal clean-up. The result of their hard work was astounding – a total of 169.78 kilograms of litter were collected from the beach. This not only transformed the landscape but also significantly contributed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event perfectly exemplified how individual actions, when combined, can bring about meaningful change. It served as a testament to the power of collective effort in addressing environmental challenges. “Shell We Clean?” was not just a clean-up; it was an embodiment of sustainability thinking, a demonstration of the impact that conscientious actions can have on the environment, and a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the natural world.

In conclusion, the “Shell We Clean?” Coastal Clean Up Volunteering Event was not merely about tidying up a beach. It was a demonstration of the potential for transformation when a community unites for a common cause. The event not only left the shoreline cleaner but also left a lasting impression on the hearts of the participants, reminding them of the significance of sustainability and collective action.
