In a bid to foster camaraderie and friendly competition, SEGi’s Quantity Surveying Club (SQSC) successfully organized a thrilling Captain Ball tournament. The event showcased the sporting prowess of SEGi students from various disciplines, including Bachelor of Quantity Surveying, Bachelor of Business Management, Bachelor of Hospitality and Management, and Bachelor of Multimedia Design. The tournament unfolded at the Multipurpose court, Segi University Kota Damansara, spanning from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on October 24th and 25th, 2023.
Tournament Dynamics and Rules
The Captain Ball tournament brought together a total of 9 teams, strategically divided into two groups. Group A comprised 4 teams, while Group B featured 5 teams. The point-scoring system was straightforward, with 3 points awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw, and none for the losing team. The cumulative points determined the standings within the groups, with head-to-head results serving as the initial tiebreaker. Goal difference and, if necessary, the number of goals scored would follow in case of further ties.
As the tournament advanced to the knockout stage, Semi-Final 1 witnessed the winner of Group A facing off against the runner-up from Group B. In Semi-Final 2, the Group B winner competed with the runner-up from Group A. The pinnacle of the tournament, the Final, saw the victorious team from Semi-Final 1 pitted against the winner of Semi-Final 2.
The match format during the Group Stage comprised two halves of 7 minutes each, separated by a 1-minute break. In the Knockout Stage, the duration of each match extended to 10 minutes per half, with a 1-minute interval. Teams were expected to be on the field within 3 minutes after the referee’s call to avoid penalties. Notably, no time-outs were permitted during any match in the league.
To add an extra incentive, the champion of the tournament secured a cash prize of RM100, while the runners-up were awarded RM50.
The tournament date, October 24, 2023, marked an evening of spirited competition and shared enthusiasm, showcasing SEGi’s commitment to promoting both academic and extracurricular excellence among its student body.”
