SEGi University’s Associate Professor wins Malaysia’s Most Impactful Young Educator Award 2019

Associate Professor Dr. Rebecca Wong Shin, Head of Medical Education and Head of Curriculum at the Faculty of Medicine, SEGi University receiving the Malaysia Most Impactful Young Educator’ Award 2019 at this year’s International Impactful Awards

Multi-award winning Associate Professor Dr Rebecca Wong Shin Yee did it again! This time, Dr Wong represented the university at the 6th International Impactful Awards (MIA), where she won the ‘Malaysia Most Impactful Young Educator’ Award 2019.

The event, held on 8 August 2019, was organised by the Malaysia Profession Influential Entrepreneurs Organisation (PIEO) and Asia Success Inc. Branding Magazine and was aimed at recognising outstanding entrepreneurs and individuals who have contributed substantially in their respective industries.

Two types of award were handed out at this event, namely Asia Most Impactful Awards (AMIA) and Malaysia Most Impactful Awards (MMIA) celebrating professionals from various fields and specialisations.

Dr Wong is a trained and registered medical practitioner. She is currently an associate professor in Physiology and the Head of Medical Education and Head of Curriculum at the Faculty of Medicine, SEGi University.

She was selected for the award based on her outstanding achievements in medical education. Her interests in leukaemia, stem cell and medical education research have yielded more than 30 publications in high-impact international journals, and her works have been cited more than 1,500 times by researchers worldwide. She has also published five academic books in the field of physiology.

In addition, Dr. Wong is frequently invited to be a peer reviewer by many high-impact international journals such as PLoS ONE, Cell Biochemistry and Function, Journal of International Nanomedicine, Journal of Cell Science and Therapy, Journal of Stem Cell Research and Therapy, Cell Proliferation, Journal of Diabetes Research, Journal of Stem Cell Research and Therapy, Biomed Research International, Food and Function, Archives of Medical Research, Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, as well as Journal of International Medical Research.

Previously, Dr. Wong has received several prestigious awards and accolades such as the 1st prize for the Young Investigator Award at the Diabetes Asia 2010 Conference by National Diabetes Institute Malaysia;  Outstanding Young Scientist/Student Award 2011 at the Asian Congress of Biotechnology 2011, Shanghai, China;  Elsevier Journal Best Paper Award (Biotechnology Advances) at the Asian Congress of Biotechnology 2011, Shanghai, China; as well as the recent Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians’ Awards 2018 by Junior Chamber International. She was also a finalist of the National Outstanding Young Educator Award 2019 by Educoop Malaysia Berhad.
