SEGi University formalised its collaborative research efforts in AI with MIMOS with the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on 14 May 2019.
The agreement was signed by Ms Hew Moi Lan, Group Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, SEG International Bhd., and Ms Emelia Matrahah, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, MIMOS, witnessed by Professor Patrick Kee, Vice-Chancellor, SEGi University, and Mr Thillai Raj T. Ramanathan, Chief Technology Officer, MIMOS.
The MoA signing was also witnessed by YB Dr Ong Kian Ming, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), who also officiated the ceremony and launched the SEGi – MIMOS Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The agreement will bridge the gap between basic research being undertaken by SEGi University and technology development in MIMOS through collaborative research and development about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and develop a pool of human resources competent in Artificial Intelligence country.
Professor Kee shared that SEGi University has always been engaging with the industries to ensure its curriculum are up-to-date and relevant to the current job market.
“We have predicted that Industry 4.0 will be the next wave of revolution which will take place in the industry and the job market. SEGi University, in collaboration with MIMOS, through the Centre of Excellence in AI, would be able to prepare students for a changing world where disruptive technologies are increasingly embedded in our consumer and business lives and the changing way of how the industries work. SEGi University is aggressively focused on offering an education which is not only relevant to the industry’s demand for today, but also for the future, and ready to re-design our education ecosystem to focus on IR4.0,” said Professor Kee.
Thillai Raj said AI has become a game-changer in many sectors including manufacturing, finance, healthcare, and the service industry, as it helps them in optimising their efficiency and productivity.
“The fast-paced digital economy has left governments and industries with no choice but to adopt cutting-edge technologies such as AI in their race to add value for customers. SEGi University has made a timely decision in setting up the AI Research Centre, which I foresee will push the boundaries of AI research.
“Our collaboration with SEGi University is in line with Industry4WRD (the national policy on Industry 4.0), where we want to build a strong pool of knowledge, skills, and talent towards increasing the country’s AI capabilities,” he said.
