“You Don’t Need Heroin to be a Hero” – An Anti-Drug Campaign

The organising committee behind the project with Pastor Ignatius (Centre, in Pink and Red tie)

The Counselling Unit of SEGi University’s Student Affairs Division in collaboration with the students from Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology programme under the School of Allied Health Sciences, co-organised an Anti-Drug Campaign with the tagline ‘You Don’t Need Heroin to be a Hero’.

The aim of the campaign was to give students an overview of the alarming rise of drug abuse amongst the youth which is becoming a grave concern in Malaysia. A representative from Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK), Mr Ignatius Wong was invited to share with the students his real life experience. He shared with the students about his past struggles where he survived extreme circumstances. He was a drug addict for 21 years since the age of 14.

He spoke on his miraculous transformation from a drug addict and gangster to a counsellor and pastor. Today, with a heart specially focused on outreach work to raise the importance of drug awareness and prevention amongst the youths and students, Ignatius is currently engaged in serving the community through public talks, one-on- one counselling and training related to drug abuse.

As part of the Anti-Drug Campaign, exhibition booths regarding drug abuse awareness were displayed for the students at the Dictator Stage.

Kudos to the students of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology for all their hard work and effort in ensuring the success of the whole event!
