The overall goal of health science is the improvement of health through scientific research. The Health Sciences programmes provide students an introduction to the health care field and an in-depth science background to prepare learners for a health-related career.

Health care can be defined as the application of knowledge acquired through health science. Health care is delivered through a variety of fields including pharmacy, optometry, dentistry and medicine, and it involves not only the treatment of illness, but also the prevention of it. Health care professionals aim to maintain the overall mental and physical well being of patients.
