The fifth edition of Case Reports in Paediatric Dentistry, known as CRiPD V 2026, was successfully convened from 24 to 26 April 2026 at Auditorium A, SEGi University.

The event was approved by Vice Chancellor Datin Professor Dr Mariani binti Md Nor, facilitated by the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Kepten (R) Dato’ Emeritus Professor Dr Hashim Yaacob, and overseen by the event chairman, Datuk Dr Kalaiarasu A/L M. Peariasamy.

The three day international conference was organised through a strategic collaboration between the Faculty of Dentistry, SEGi University, and the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Hospital Sungai Buloh, under the Ministry of Health Malaysia. The conference welcomed approximately 150 delegates, with participation from an international cohort representing Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, India, the Philippines, and Singapore.

The pre conference day on 24 April featured two parallel workshops designed to strengthen clinical competencies in paediatric dentistry. These sessions provided participants with hands on training and valuable opportunities to engage closely with expert facilitators, setting a strong academic foundation for the main conference.

Held on 25 and 26 April, the main conference featured a comprehensive scientific programme comprising keynote lectures, oral presentations, and poster sessions. Distinguished international speakers, including Professor Nik Kantaputra from Thailand, Professor Angus Cameron from Australia, and Professor Shantala from India, delivered insightful lectures on contemporary advancements and evidence based practices in paediatric dentistry.

The research presentations highlighted emerging findings, innovative clinical approaches, and interdisciplinary perspectives, contributing to meaningful academic discussion among delegates. A competitive element was also incorporated through adjudicated oral and poster presentation sessions, with awards presented to outstanding contributors in recognition of scholarly excellence and research engagement.

Beyond the scientific sessions, CRiPD V 2026 provided valuable networking opportunities that encouraged regional and international academic collaborations. The event successfully contributed to knowledge sharing, professional development, and the advancement of paediatric dentistry.

SEGi University recently organised its Health Sciences Experience Day on 10 April 2026, bringing prospective students closer to the world of health sciences through a full day of hands on activities and interactive learning sessions. The event was designed especially for school leavers and individuals exploring healthcare related study pathways, giving them the opportunity to experience different disciplines before making one of the most important decisions for their future.

Throughout the day, participants were introduced to key Health Science programmes including Dentistry, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Science, Pharmacy and Medicine. Each session offered a practical glimpse into the learning environment, from clinical simulations and laboratory based exposure to guided demonstrations that reflected real healthcare practices.

Participants experienced how dental professionals create tooth impressions, explored eye tests used in optometry, learned about posture and body movement in physiotherapy, carried out blood grouping activities in biomedical science, observed pharmacy dispensing practices, and engaged with human anatomy through interactive learning. These activities helped students see that healthcare education is not only built on theory, but also on precision, confidence, problem solving and care.

More than just an introductory event, the Health Sciences Experience Day supported Damansara Medical EduHub’s role in providing early exposure to future healthcare learners. By allowing participants to discover different areas of health sciences in a practical and engaging setting, the initiative helped them better understand their interests, strengths and possible study options.

At the centre of this shift is mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) research, a field that holds significant potential for transforming clinical practice. An international faculty development programme hosted by Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals addressed this need by focusing on strategies to integrate MSC research into dental education. The session, led by Dr Saravana Kumar, Deputy Dean and Associate Professor from SEGi University, Malaysia, explored how educators can be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to bring regenerative concepts into the classroom.

The programme emphasised key areas such as stem cell biology, tissue engineering, and biomaterials, all of which are essential components of modern regenerative dentistry. By strengthening faculty understanding in these areas, educators are better positioned to deliver content that is relevant, current, and aligned with industry advancements.

The Faculty of Dentistry at SEGi University recently organised a two day workshop titled Aligning Assessments with the PQE: Fulfilling the Standard for Compliance. The session was led by Prof. Dr Noor Hayaty Abu Kasim and Assoc. Prof. Dr Maryati Md Dasor, and brought together academic staff to review and refine assessment practices in line with national professional standards.

The workshop focused on Outcome Based Education and its alignment with the Professional Qualifying Examination framework. Participants worked on mapping the dental curriculum to PQE requirements across Part I, Part II, and Part III, ensuring that learning outcomes, teaching delivery, and assessment methods are clearly aligned.

Faculty members also received guidance on constructing quality assessment items, including Objective Based Assessments, Short Answer Questions, Extended Matching Questions, and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations. By the end of the workshop, participants had strengthened their understanding of developing valid and reliable assessments that meet national regulatory expectations. Held from 18–20 April at Universiti Malaya and organised by the Malaysian Dental Students’ Association (MDSA), this prestigious event gathered the best from dental schools across Malaysia to compete in a range of athletic disciplines. For SEGi’s delegation, it wasn’t just about competition — it was about resilience, teamwork, and pushing personal boundaries.

SEGi’s Gold medal moments included standout performances in Women’s Badminton Singles by Maria Ngor Zhuang Zhi, Women’s 800m Track by Yap Yi Van, and a dominant team win in Dodgeball, with a fierce lineup featuring Tan Sei Jun, Luqman Hakeem, Bavan Saankkar, and others who delivered energy, speed, and synergy. Notably, Maria Ngor not only clinched Gold but also contributed to a Bronze in Women’s Doubles alongside Lim Zi Xin, who also captained the SEGi team.
