It’s all about interaction and engagement: The trainee teachers and the little ones on stage at the festival.

EDUCATION at SEGi College Kota Damansara (SCKD) is more than just classroom work and academics. A group of trainee teachers from SCKD Early Childhood Club planned and conducted activities on stage at a community event, “Chinese New Year Shopping Festival 2018”.

The event served as a platform for the trainee teachers to engage with children and also developed a sense of belonging in the community.

The pre-service teachers applied their skills and knowledge gained in classroom while planning fun activities for the children.

Laughter could be heard and smiles plastered across the children faces as they participated in four stage activities, which included Hopscotch Chinese Zodiac, Three-Legged Game, The Monster Nian and Draw your Fortune Sticks.

Parents also joined in the fun on the stage. The activity ended with thunderous applause from the crowd. Despite some early jitters prior to the event, the pre-service teachers were relieved and glad after the event came to an end. They expressed a sense of accomplishment and took the occasion as a learning opportunity.

The festival was organized by the largest mummy community group in Malaysia, Caring Moms, at Sunway Geo Avenue on Feb 3.
