Bengali

The School of Hospitality and Tourism at SEGi College Kota Damansara (SCKD) has recently organised a colourful celebration in conjunction with the Bengali New Year, or also known as Pohela Boishakh. 

Bengali New Year is a traditional festival celebrated on the first day of Bengali calendar. It is celebrated on April 14 annually as a national holiday in Bangladesh.

The vivid and joyous occasion was organised by SOHT students from Bangladesh. It received positive responses from various quarters including support from the Bangladesh Embassy. A counsellor from Bangladesh High Commission, Md Sayedul Islam also attended the celebration. 

Other guests included President of Malaysia Awami League, Md Mokbul Hossain, its vice president Dato Akter Hossain, its secretary general Kamruzzaman Kamal and its organizing secretary Shwakat Hoque Josef. The organizing committee is delighted to have Awami League, one of the many political parties in Bangladesh coming in as a sponsor.

More than 80 students participated in the celebration on April 13, and it showcased Bengali culture, food, arts, literature and music. Women were spotted in their classic saris draped in the Bengali style with flowers in their hair and bindis on their foreheads while men wore kurtas (long shirts). 

Guests were entertained with Bengali songs, dances, poetry recitations and traditional folk songs. Guests were served a sumptuous Bengali feast after the performances.
