Taipei, May 9, 2008 SEGi College Malaysia and The College of architecture of the University of The Philippines with the technical support from TAO-Philipinas Incs., the Technical Assistance Office of The Philippines, signed a Memorandum of Practices on Capabilities-Building of Communities, today.
The ceremony held in Taipei was the grand finale of the International Training Workshop on Typhoon and Flood Disaster Reduction 2008 attended by representatives of nine countries: El Salvador, Guatemala, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Thailand, The Philippines, the United States of America and Vietnam.
Professor Chen Liang-Chun, Director of the National Science and Technology Centre for Disaster Reduction of Taiwan and also Advisor to the initiative called upon universities of other countries to join in the Community of Practices as he equate natural disasters to the globalization of business, thus, requiring the need for knowledge on disaster reduction to be shared across time and distance in order for mankind to manage our resources for the creation of a safer environment.
“We should at all times keep a watchful eye on events and be prepared to adapt ourselves proactively to environmental changes and demands”, said Dr. Daphne Loke, Director of the Centre for Continuing Education, SEGi College Malaysia.
SEGi’s effort at research and development is done with the purpose of bridging our products with market and industry needs.
