26 May 2008 - Reaching out a helping hand to the Salvation Army, SEGi College Malaysia awarded a Principal Scholarship to 19 year old Chong Yu Sen.

“It is always one of SEGi’s concerns to help deserving young people to obtain tertiary education. When we receive Chong’s application, we were moved by his story and his appeal for a scholarship that we decided to award him a full scholarship,” said Hew Moi Lan, Vice President (Operations) of SEG International Bhd and Principal of SEGi College Kuala Lumpur.

Chong who was born in Ipoh suffered many hardships in life as he was growing up. By the age of 14, he was sent to the Salvation Army to be cared for.

With a love for mathematic, Chong who completed his SPM last year, was at a lost on what was his next step in life when he couldn’t find help

to further his education. Learning about two of his seniors from the Salvation Army who have applied and were granted scholarships from SEGi College Penang, Chong decided to follow suit. Although already of age 18, the Salvation Army helped to write to SEGi for assistance.

“I chose to apply to SEGi as I believe the college is able to help me realize my dreams of obtaining higher education in accounting. I am very grateful to be enrolled in the Diploma in Accounting programme as this is the first and important step for me to build a foundation and eventually enter the corporate world armed with a diploma,” said Chong appreciatively.

Hew presented the scholarship award to Chong at a simple ceremony last week. Chong will begin his new college life soon.

“I hope to achieve success as many of my peers at the Salvation Army did before me,” said the gutsy lad.
