SEGi’s OPEN DAY

Preview on Mechanical Engineering

29 June 2009

SEGi University College opened its doors to the public over the weekend to welcome new registrations and enquiries at SEGi’s Open Day.

The Open Day offered potential students and their families the opportunity to see the RM150 million purposed-built SEGi campus for themselves while also learning about the various programmes offered.

Students and parents were taken on a campus tour, and also counselled on courses and programmes that are offered in SEGi University College.

There were two previews held during the open day; the first was a preview on  the University of Sunderland’s Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) 2+2 twinning programme and the other on the Master of Engineering (MEng) 1+ 3 offered at The University of Sheffield.

Professor Tony Markham, from University of Sunderland shed light on how the role of a Pharmacist has changed in the last decade; and how the role will continue to change with time. Professor Markham also spoke on the abundance of career options available in Pharmacy.

The Master of Pharmacy 2+2 twinning programme in collaboration with University of Sunderland, UK has been given provisional recognition by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB). This means that graduates have the opportunity to practise as Pharmacists, not only within Malaysia and the UK, but also in countries around the world that recognise the four year pharmacy masters degree from the University of Sunderland.

Professor Markham assured students that the employment rate for Pharmacists was very high; adding that graduates from the University of Sunderland would be able to find a career in Pharmacy anywhere in the world with a lucrative salary.

The preview on the Master of Engineering (Hons) 1+3 offered in collaboration with the University of Sheffield provided information on the Chemical, Mechanical and Electronic & Electrical engineering programmes offered.

Present at the MEng preview was Ms. Tina Yeung (Associate Director, South East Asia Region for The University of Sheffield); providing parents and prospect students with an understanding into the programmes as well as life in Sheffield.
