20 June 2008 – SEGi International Berhad has set up a Procurement and Quality Assurance (PQA) Department as another measure to streamline and maximise profit of its group of companies through cost control and assured quality.

This move is indeed timely with the overall increase in prices of goods and services following the fuel hike.

The PQA Department will ensure that procurement carried out is of the best interest to the company. It serves to monitor the Group’s product and service purchases as well as to ensure the most competitive prices and quality are obtained.

The General Manager heading the department is a very experienced Nellie Lee Chooi Yen, who is a Chartered Institute of Builders (UK) graduate. She has up to 17 years of experience in quantity surveying in the construction industry.

Nellie has a lot of exposure to specification and budget setting, building up rates, negotiating for best deals, cost control and monitoring activities. Her latest position before joining SEGi was Deputy General Manager of a construction firm.

Being the General Manager, she is responsible for developing, planning and implementing procurement activities for all the companies under the Group. Her department will work closely with management teams of these companies in implementing cost-effective strategies.

“Having worked almost two decades in the construction industry, I have gathered contacts of many vendors and suppliers. The pool of contacts must be correct and be in reasonable numbers in order to get the best deals,” said Nellie.

She believes in professionalism and following certain principles of life when handling any issue thay may emerge.

“The most essential guiding factor for decisions would be the interest of the company as a group,” asserted Nellie.
