SEGi College Welcomes New LAN CEO

8th August 2007 - SEGi College, Malaysia recently welcomed the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Accreditation Board, Datuk Prof. Dr. Syed Ahmad bin Hussein to its new flagship campus at Kota Damansara. SEGi took the opportunity to discuss with Prof. Dr. Syed Ahmad the future programmes which SEGi will offer in its campuses, as well as to bring the LAN CEO on a tour of the new campus.

On hand to welcome the guest of honour at the newly open SEGi campus was Lee Kok Cheng - Chief Operating Officer of SEG International Bhd and Principal of SEGi College, Malaysia, Dr. Tan Beng Cheok – Senior Vice President (Academic), Dr. Wong Boon Kwei – Deputy Principal (Academic) and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and Hajjah Roswati Rahmat – Director of Regulatory Affairs.

The LAN CEO was impressed with the infrastructure and facilities of the new campus. SEGi Group of Colleges has invested RM150million for the construction and equipment of the new campus to ensure its facilities are of world class standards.

“A visit by the LAN CEO is not a commonplace occurrence, and we are honoured that he took the time off his busy schedule to inspect the campus. It is opportune that Datuk Dr. Syed Ahmad’s start as CEO of LAN coincides with the opening of SEGi’s new flagship campus. It marks a fresh start for both SEGi and LAN, whilst we carry on our legacy of ensuring that we provide quality education to students,” said Lee Kok Cheng.

“We work closely with LAN because it is important that programmes we offer are approved by the government, meeting the standards of higher education set by the government,” he added.

According to Lee, SEGi often seeks the advice of LAN with regards to existing and new programmes for the College. “With frequent updates with LAN, we can make sure our programmes are up to par with the standards set. We are serious about providing approved courses that meets the stringent standards of the governing bodies as to ensure recognised qualifications for our students.”

Datuk Prof. Dr. Syed Ahmad bin Hussein officially took office on 1st July 2007. He was formerly the Director of Pusat Kajian Antarabangsa, Pusat Pengajian Sains Kemasyarakatan of Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang. He has a Masters in Social Science and Bachelor (Hons.) Social Science from Universiti Sains

Malaysia and completed the M.A., M.Phil and his Ph.D. from Yale University. He also holds a Dip. of Conflict Resolution from Uppsala University.

Students can also find out more about the BSc (Hons) Applied Business Computing, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical and Electronic programmes offered in partnership with University of Sunderland (UOS), UK.

Other than 3+0 degree programmes, the Colleges also offer more than a hundred diploma programmes in the areas of Business and Accountancy, Engineering and Technology, Creative Arts and Design, Education and Social Sciences, Nursing, and Hotel Management and Tourism.

All diplomas can be articulated into bachelor programme with partner universities.

SEGi also offers a vast range of degree programmes, through twinning arrangements with top-notch universities such as the University of Sheffield, University of Abertay Dundee, University of Greenwich, University of Sunderland, University of Southern Queensland, and Upper Iowa University. 

“We also have in the pipeline programmes of health sciences and build environment. We’re looking at offering courses of the disciplines of bio-medicine, bio-technology, dentistry, pharmacy, quantity surveying, architecture, construction and project management,” said Lee. “All these will be offered once they receive approval from LAN and MOHE.”
