Where there is human civilisation, there will be construction. For those who wish to ‘build’ the future and gain qualifications for a career in the construction industry, studying a Built Environment programme is the ideal start.

SEGi University College now offers its very own degree programmes in civil engineering and construction management, which are catered to the Malaysian market while also incorporating a global context.

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) Construction Management is a 3-year degree programme designed to be industry driven, covering the managerial and technological aspects of the construction industry. Graduates of this degree will be well equipped with the knowledge and skills required to monitor and manage the technical processes of construction, as well as manage the legal and financial aspects of the construction project.

In addition, students will be exposed to studies in other fields related to business, leadership, environmental issues, sustainable construction and English which will make them more competitive in the job market. Students will graduate with the skills and knowledge of leading a project team, implementing project controls, developing communication practices, identifying possible problems and developing creative solutions for these problems.

There is a variety of career opportunities within the construction industry. Graduates with a SEGi Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Construction Management are qualified to be project executives, construction project supervisors, construction contractor executives, construction project managers or construction project directors. They can also become sub-contractors or gain employment in different job roles with developers and other construction industry sectors.

Civil engineers are needed in all stages of a construction project. The SEGi Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Civil Engineering is a 4-year programme suitable for those who wish to embark on a career in designing infrastructures. SEGi graduates will not only be trained to develop expertise in the planning, design, construction and management of civil engineering projects, but to also have knowledge related to business, leadership, environmental issues and English.

Upon completion of their studies, graduates will possess technical, managerial, organisational, financial, communication, research and critical analysis skills. With these skills and a strong foundation of engineering and science, graduates of this programme will be competent in developing creative strategies, designs and managing complex projects. This programme is approved by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC). This degree also enjoys international recognition, as the University of Greenwich (UK) is quality partner.

Graduates of the BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering are well poised to transition directly into employment, pursuing job roles relevant to the civil and construction industry sectors, including civil engineers, construction engineers, design engineers, research engineers, project managers, or project directors. They may also gain employment in consulting firms, construction companies and research institutions.

SEGi Education Group also offers other degree and master programmes for Engineering. Students can pick from 5 foreign Engineering programmes offered in collaboration with 2 very distinguished UK universities. There are the 1+3 master degree programmes with The University of Sheffield and the 3+0 degree programmes with the University of Sunderland.

In collaboration with The University of Sheffield (TUOS), there is the 1+3 MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering, Electronic & Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering offered at SEGi University College. The first year of this programme can be completed at SEGi University College while the remaining 3 years are to be completed at The University of Sheffield campus in the UK.

TUOS has over 120 years of experience in teaching engineering and is one of the leading UK universities in engineering. In fact, TUOS has many awards to its name and continues to win awards for outstanding research and contributions to Engineering and Science.

The Sunderland Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical & Electronic Engineering are available at SEGi University College and SEGi College Subang Jaya.

The University of Sunderland has an international reputation as an innovative university, with a reputation for developing programmes that meet the needs of employers while working closely with businesses to provide students relevant and practical teaching.
