At an epic event witnessed by Segians, the Minister of Health, Y.B. Dato’ Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, launched SEGi Clinical Care at SEGi University.

SEGi Clinical Care is an RM10 million Ringgit investment by SEGi University in its endeavour to be a Centre of Excellence in the field of health sciences in the near future.

SEGi Clinical Care denotes operational clinics and partnerships by the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Optometry and Vision Sciences, namely the smart partnership with Hospital Teluk Intan, SEGi Oral Health Centre, SEGi EyeCare and SEGi Mobile Clinic.

The smart partnership with Hospital Teluk Intan was formed for SEGi medical students to conduct practical and clinical rotations. SEGi University has established a facility in Hospital Teluk Intan, making it the first public-private partnership where a private education institution’s facility has been set up within the premises of the Ministry of Health. Now, SEGi medical students are able to conduct practicals at one of the most notable government hospitals in the nation, and acquire knowledge and skills to take on clinical responsibilities upon graduation.

The SEGi Oral Health Centre is where dental students are given insight into working with dentists and patients alike, to train to be future providers of dental care and be equipped with the skills needed to become an able practioner. Through the Centre, members of the public can receive good dental treatment at affordable rates.

The SEGi EyeCare is a centre offering both general and specialist optometric services, which are supported by an optical dispensary. Optometry students can get practical exposure and members of the public can obtain quality care given by SEGi’s experienced teaching staff and students at affordable rates. And with the SEGi Mobile Clinic under their care, they will be able to widen their reach for people in need of eye care advice.

The other aim of SEGi Clinical Care is to provide a community service through the provision of healthcare that is either free or subsidised to members of the local community that need medical attention at affordable rates. This can help inculcate compassion for the community amongst students, and they will greatly benefit from the opportunity to serve people with various health needs and will also learn to develop the necessary dispositions to be a top-notch health care professional.
