  | Students from Guangxi University for Nationalities (GXUN), China were ecstatic on 12 July after receiving certificates for successfully completing the Intensive English Programme at SEGi University College (SEGi UC). The joyous event was organized by the International Marketing Office to bid farewell to the group of 38 students, as the students took to the stand to share their experiences studying at SEGi University College and to share their heartfelt gratitude to SEGi. Some of the students are looking forward to continue their Master’s programme. The students are the first batch from GXUN to participate in the Study Abroad Programme and were here for a total of 10 months to master the fundamental nuances of the English Language taught at the Centre for Languages, SEGi UC. Another 49 students from GXUN have signed up for this Programme due to commence in September 2012. A Memorandum of Understanding between SEGi University College and GXUN on 15 June 2011 allows GXUN to participate in the Study Abroad Programme, which includes 10-month English language proficiency training and the opportunity to study at the Kota Damansara campus. Students are awarded the Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the programme. GXUN recognizes the 10- month programme at SEGi UC as equivalent to an internship since it enables students to increase their employability. GXUN aims to send their students overseas to gain the experience of living and studying in a foreign country after their diploma or degree studies. They will spend a year abroad as part of their internship. Besides SEGi, GXUN has also sent students to other countries such as Thailand and the Philippines. The students from GXUN gained an invaluable exposure to Malaysian hospitality and culture as well as the opportunity to improve their English proficiency. |
