Students from the Faculty of Creative Arts and Designs (FOCAD), SEGi College Subang Jaya organised a programme for the Temuan (one of the native Malaysian aborigine groups) children at Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Rasau, Puchong on 13 August 2011.

Based on the theme Creativity to Enhance Individual Skills and Talent, the objective of the project was to highlight the importance of social responsibility towards the community as well as create awareness and interest among the children towards creativity.

The SEGi students were able to capture the interest of the native children through all the activities conducted. Among the activities during the five-hour event was a brainstorming session, imaginative and expressive games, and some colouring and designing activities.

Azreen, one of the FOCAD students, said “This event was a memorable project whereby it was a real-time experience planning, organising and running an event. We were happy when the children enjoyed the programme we planned for them.”

The event concluded with the distribution of hampers and goody bags to the children. The goody bags contained food, drinks, books and stationery for each Temuan child.

“We hope the students were able to truly appreciate the meaning of ‘a responsible citizen’. We hope this programme has inculcated in these young minds the concept of service to the community,” said Maizurah, advisor and lecturer, FOCAD, SEGi College Subang Jaya.
