Nov 4, 2008 - Datuk Clement Hii, Group Managing Director/CEO of SEG International Bhd (SEGi) has been conferred the CEO Award in recognition of his leadership qualities which have led his company to corporate success, at the ASEAN Awards for Leadership organised by Technology Business Review (TBR) recently.

The winners were selected by TBR’s panel of judges based on a stringent set of criteria including the nominated CEO’s influence on the company’s financial performance, branding, corporate social responsibilities and management culture.

Hii was last month also named as one of the five Top Nominees for Ernst & Young’s Master Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Hii was a winner in the Education Management sector. Among those conferred the CEO Award in the various categories include Dato’ Bridget Lai, CEO of Alliance Bank (Banking and Finance sector), Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir, Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare Bhd (Healthcare sector) and Dato’ Mohd Jabar Kembali, CEO of Selangor State Investment Centre (Investment Promotion sector).

University of Malaya, Nokia Siemen Networks Sdn Bhd and Telekom Sales and Services Sdn Bhd were among the companies which were given Corporate Awards in their respective industries.

In his message, Hii likened corporate leaders to captains of ships embarking on a journey. “You have to know where to go and exactly how you are going to reach there.”

The SEGi MD/CEO also described the provision for private education as a “delicate balance” between business and a social responsibility, particularly for SEGi as a public listed company. “We have to ensure that the line is clearly defined so that we can all do good while making a decent profit,” he said.

Hii is also the Group Managing Director of EcoFirst Consolidated Bhd, which is listed on Main Board of Bursa Malaysia.

TBR ASEAN Awards was first conceptualised in 2006 to recognised excellence in the business world. It brings together executives from leading corporations in the ASEAN region, as well as prominent members of professional bodies, government ministers and high ranking members of the diplomatic corp.

This year’s event was held at the grand ballroom of the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. The presentation dinner was also described by TBR as one of the largest networking events in Malaysia for the year.
