SEGi’s English Study Skills is a comprehensive program of language skills development for teenagers and adults looking forward to improve their English for general use or to proceed to more academic courses where English is the medium of instruction.
Students graduate from the English Study Skills (ESS) Program with the skills and knowledge to:
- Confidently study in an English speaking college or university, working both independently and in groups
- Undertake independent research
- Write academic reports, essays and terms
- Converse fluently in academic situations
- Ability to read and comprehend various types of texts
- Upgrade their listening skills in relation to social and academic contexts such as conversation, meetings, discussions, announcements, news and documentaries
On successful completion of the full English Study Skills Program (Level 1 to 5), students are expected to achieve a band score of 6 or higher in an IELTS examination or a score of 550+ on the TOEFL.

Course Synopsis |
English Study Skills 1 & 2 |
These levels are aimed at raising and enhancing the learners’ general language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing at a general and pre-academic level.
All four language macro skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) are developed in an integrated way.
The emphasis throughout is to encourage and facilitate self-directed learning by providing the learner with as much (guided) control of their learning environment. |
| English Study Skills 3 & 4 |
These levels are aimed at helping students to convey and understand basic meanings on familiar topics. Students will be trained to use common questions and also the formation of basic sentences.
Students are encourage to take initiative with original statements and pronounce English words comprehensibly. |
English Study Skills 5 |
The principal objective of this module is to introduce the learners to the conversation and practice of academic research for undergraduate studies in English.
This level designed in accordance with the practice of “learning by doing”. The learners will be guided through the process of thinking, selection of evidence, writing and revision. |
